PRELIMINARY WORK PROJECT-MAKING OFF

PREPARING FOR THE PHOTOSHOOT..

After I had all the resources prepared for the photoshoot, I started arranging the set. I asked the model to sit in the position which I wanted to work with for the photoshoot in order to arrange the other aspects. I started off working with natural light. Later on I also used different led colours( blue, red, green) and flash light from the camera. For taking the photos I used a Nikon D5300 camera. For the position of the camera instead of holding it, I placed it on a high flat surface in order for the images to be straight which will later help when it comes to editing. After everything was set I started the photoshoot. Even though I decided to only work with portraits it did take a lot of time to prepare, arrange and take the photos, but I had a lot of fun creating it. Here are some of the thousand pictures I took :)

Furthermore these are some of my favourite photos from the photoshoot which I feel that express different emotions and feelings, and which fit perfectly with my project. Just by looking at the photos you can see the light change, some being brighter some darker and also the camera focus. I played around with the camera lens by zooming in and out. I have kept some of the pictures even though they weren't clear or the lighting wasn't the best, to show how I have experimented with the camera.

EDITING..

For editing the photos I used Lightroom and as I said at the beginning of the project I wanted to edit the pictures in Black and White. I played around with different effects where I added a lot of contrast to the image and very dark highlights and shadows to outline some key features.When I was satisfied with the editing I cropped the images to focus on the model's face and expression.

This year for the course of my As media studies I chose to work with Film Opening, therefore my preliminary work should be involved with some sort of movement, however I wasn't really sure what kind of mini film to create for my preliminary work and that is why I have chosen to show movement, feelings, emotions in a different way. I added extra features to the photos using Procreate where I have outlined( using a white fine tip) different images which express different emotions and I combined them with all sorts of sentiments.
