COURSEWORK DEVELOPMENT-FINAL CUT OF THE FILM OPENING

We changed a lot from what we originally had planned and that's because filming was different and more difficult than we had imagined. With the help of some useful comments from our presented audience, we changed a couple things around in the opening. For example, the colours were desaturated considerably, adding to the dream-like, confusing and unfamiliar tone the opening holds.

Admittedly, we were quite ambitious with the entirety of our opening - perhaps the task of so many different locations proved a difficult factor to overcome, probably also contributing to sacrifices we had to make along the way amongst deriving from the script. With this in mind, along with the current pandemic situation, we organized ourselves as best we could to create this work. In the future, we’ve learned that we would have to be more considerate of our possibilities.

But, considering these factors, we are satisfied with the end result. The black and white version holds an interesting atmosphere, but ultimately we decided on the colour version. The music brings everything together, matching the actions happening on screen. There is a tension translated into the visuals and sound. While our actor is within interior locations, the music is jarring and claustrophobic. While when he is outside, the sounds are much quieter but still uneasy and confusing, therefore creating a fitting juxtaposition between elements. The editing effects make the opening even more intricate and hard to understand - tying together and giving the audience unknown information and variables that are hard to track, essentially confusing them about what is happening. Our expectations of this opening were fairly higher than our produced final product, but definitely in the future we now know how to improve.
