CCR-CONVENTIONS AND REPRESENTATIONS

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

*Through the representation of conventions in our film opening which appears frequently at the beginning of the film opening and in between scenes throughout the film are used in order to present to the audience the title of the film opening and the name of the production company. Throughout the film opening the audience is challenged to face reality, in this case focusing on mental illness. The camera focuses on the main character and his insanity, by chasing after him, the background music and sounds intersect with his emotions and his actions in order to portray instability.

The alternation between the use of conventions placed on the black screen throughout the jump cuts and the subject struggling to adapt in different locations, confuses and irritates the audience into understanding the message being transmitted and understanding the thoughts going through the subjects mind. Sound as I have mentioned earlier is also another aspect which portrays the insanity of the character. This is mainly presented at the beginning of the film opening by including sharp,disturbing and quick sounds to combine with what the main character is feeling and seeing.

After creating and sharing a target audience questionnaire in order to gather information based on what genre is most liked and viewed by the audience,psychological thriller was the genre we went further on with for our film opening. Personally I haven't seen many psychological thriller movies, or had a major understanding of it,therefore research was key for me to understand and create further ideas. Working with the main character, his facial expressions and actions was also an aspect to which we had to adapt in order to integrate well with the genre of the film. Overall we wanted to show the madness and anxiety within the main character at the beginning of the film, slowly making the audience want to understand the cause and his way of adjusting to the situation he is found in.*
