PRELIMINARY WORK-MINOR TASK-DIGIPAK FRONT COVER

For my preliminary work I chose to work alone for the Minor Task this being the front cover of a digitak, I chose to work with Olivia Rodrigo's style. Olivia Rodrigo is an American singer and songwriter. She is a young artist of 19 years and is well known for her album 'Sour". The reason for which I have chosen to focus on her is because I, myself listen and am a fan of her music and the genre she sings this being a mix between pop, pop rock and indie.

Since her album came out I was attracted by her digipak cover, the use of colours, facial expression and the use of the numerous stickers is what was most eye appealing to me. Therefore for the front cover of the digipak I decided to recreate Olivia Rodrigo's front cover except include the main character which will be in the music video instead of Olivia.

When choosing the main character which was to be in the music video, I wanted to make sure it was someone suitable for the role, easy and comfortable to work with and be around. Therefore I chose to work with one of my closest friends Stefania Gherman as I worked with her in the past for one of my AS Media Studies projects and I thought she was most suitable for the role as she is very photogenic and actressy inclined. Another reason for which I have chosen to work with her is because like me, she is a big fan of Olivia and knows all her songs and the lyrics therefore when it comes to the filming stage it will be very easy and quick to film and work with leaving time for me to focus on other aspects of the video such as the editing process.

Recreating the digipak was indeed difficult when it came to posing exactly as Olivia Rodrigo poses in her album. I started of by analysing her make up, clothing and facial expression and putting everything into practice. In order to make sure everything would turn out how I wanted, I took care of the make up and hair of the model as well as placing the stickers o the models face the way I wanted it to look(similar to the stickers placement on Olivia's face). Below I have attached some screenshots of the process of getting ready:

Then came the photoshoot time where it took quite a few tries in order to get a similar expression of the model to Olivia's. The photos were taken in a room with a white wall as the focus was on the model and her facial expressions rather than the background which was later going to be edited. As props I used an iPhone 12 Pro Max for taking the photos and a ring light to make the image brighter.

The editing process for the digipak front cover, I used photoshop and Procreate to edit the image which was most compatible to the Sour album cover. Below I have attached the digipak front cover of Olivia Rodrigo as well as my final edit to compare between the two.

Overall I feel like this process could have gone better. It did not turn out exactly the way I wanted, but by this being my first time creating a digipak, I feel like it isn't that bad. Things that I could and will improve in the future are plan the work before in order to make sure that I have everything that I need ready, so that the production process is not delayed by any inconveniences. To add on I could also take my time in creating everything step by step without rushing, as I usually tend to get excited and rush things. I should also document more and try new more sophisticated softwares which allow me to explore into greater detail different outcomes.
